Everything is Connected: Environmental Literacy for Vermont
On Thursday, February 25th join in a public dialogue to share examples of environmental projects and initiatives from your workplace or community. The event will be held at the Hartland Public Library at 153 Route 5 in Hartland from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, and is hosted by Vermont’s State-Wide Environmental Education Programs alliance (SWEEP). Tea, coffee and dessert will be provided.
The public dialogue is the fifth of fourteen that are being held from January through April in each county of Vermont. This statewide conversation is an opportunity for folks to share successful environmental efforts from their businesses and organizations and to identify existing needs and opportunities to increase environmental literacy in Vermont. One of the project goals is to gather information about model environmental initiatives in Vermont that can be replicated in other businesses or communities.
The process also will result in the creation of a roadmap to environmental literacy for Vermont, and will help to inform a preK-12 plan that meets the requirements of proposed federal legislation, the No Child Left Inside Act (NCLI) of 2009 (HR.2054, S. 866). By creating a community-based, comprehensive and strategic environmental literacy action plan that extends beyond the K-12 education system to include all ages and sectors of the community, Vermont will lead the way nationally and serve as a model for other states.
